We’ve relocated to Red Lodge, Montana, a darling little town located at the foot of the Beartooth Mountains. From here we are able to do some exploring into the mountains and travel the famous Beartooth Highway, considered to be one of the most scenic highways in America. The 64 mile highway starts in Montana, then crosses into Wyoming connecting to the eastern entrance of Yellowstone NP at Cooke City.

It took us a moment to realize what we were seeing here, an almost vertical slope with skiers and snowboarders and at the bottom they were doing freestyle jumping. Elsewhere on the road there were people tubing down a large slope and almost landing on the highway in front of cars.
On a large patch of tundra 13 mountain goats appeared.
We have been on many mountain highways but this one was a stunner, almost continuous switchbacks make it a motorcyclists dream and there are many who head there for this ride. The road is frequently closed because of snow even in the summer and it snowed there last week (mid June).

Since we have been to Cooke City before we decided not to go the whole way across and turned around just passed the summit. It was an awesome ride and truly does live up to it’s reputation as one of the most scenic drives in the country.
